He handled some of the difficult situations he finds himself in so well compared to the first book, whilst of course blundering his way through the rest, blurting out his every thought. Nick is still beautifully awkward in every way, but has grown so much from his experiences in these two books.

They love each other no matter what, yet spend most of their waking lives trying to make the other uncomfortable. I still love Nick and his dad, with every fibre of my being. I’m pretty sure that someone is described as a ‘superqueero’ at some point, and that just sums the book up perfectly! Genre wise, I’m pretty sure it’s out there on it’s own breaking new barriers, but I love that it’s a love letter to comic books, whilst also constantly poking fun at them. Whilst I didn’t quite enjoy this book as much as the first, I did still have a brilliant time reading it. To be frank, this series is BAT SHIT crazy, and I’m here for it. Will it all come together in the end or will it all go down in flames? Reviewįlash Fire picks up perfectly where The Extraordinaries left off, after leaving us with that huge WTF ending! If you haven’t read book one, you can check out my review here, and I definitely suggest giving it a go before reading further (although I will try and keep this as spoiler free as possible). Which is a lot to handle when Nick really just wants to finish his self-insert bakery AU fanfic. Long-held secrets and neglected truths are surfacing that challenge everything Nick knows about justice, family, and being extraordinary. When new Extraordinaries begin arriving in Nova City-siblings who can manipulate smoke and ice, a mysterious hero who can move objects with their mind, and a drag queen superhero with the best name and the most-sequined costume anyone has ever had-it’s up to Nick and his friends Seth, Gibby, and Jazz to determine who is virtuous and who is villainous.Īnd new Extraordinaries aren’t the only things coming to light. But having a superhero boyfriend isn’t everything Nick thought it would be-he’s still struggling to make peace with his own lack of extraordinary powers. Now instead of just writing stories about him, Nick actually gets to kiss him. Through bravery, charm, and an alarming amount of enthusiasm, Nick landed himself the superhero boyfriend of his dreams.
