

In the novel, the sectarian conflict between the Sunni king Yavuz Sultan Selim- Sultan of Ottoman Empire and the Shiite Kizilbash Safavid Shah Ismail, and the consequences of this conflict are given as unnecessary struggle of two rulers who risk everything for the sake of ruling. The novel, where the conflict between Alevism and Sunnis is also discussed, talks about the fact that growing tension and conflict behind the political mask between these two Muslim and Turkish historical figures, was actually the difference between the sects. The novel describes these two powerful historical figures as victory ambitious enemies, with all their weaknesses and strength. The subject of Iskender Pala’s historical novel “Shah and Sultan” is about the battle between the Safavid shah Ismail Shah and Yavuz Sultan Selim Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
